LITERACY

LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES
The Little Free Library (LFL) project supports book access for children in underserved communities. In spring 2025, we launched a LFL initiative in our own community, where volunteers built and installed seven mini libraries. These libraries started off in Kenna's neighborhood, then gradually expanded across the Greater Triangle area in North Carolina. With each library, we promoted a love of reading among young readers in our community.
INKWELL WRITING WORKSHOP
The Inkwell Writing Workshop (IWW) is a free annual summer program for young writers grades 4-8. It was started in summer 2023 to spark a passion for creative writing and poetry in over 50 students. Students learned key writing skills, participated in writing exercises, and played fun games. We have received positive feedback from both students and parents saying that the workshop was engaging and that the instructors' explanations and interactions with students were great.

AFRICAN LIBRARY PROJECT
The African Library Project (ALP) helps create, improve, and sustain libraries in underserved communities in Africa. In fall 2024, we organized a book drive in our community, collecting over 2200 books from nearby neighborhoods. We then sorted and packed these books into 32 boxes. These boxes were shipped to Uganda, where they helped establish 3 libraries: the HAI-TEC Empowerment Initiative and Library, the Hade Community Library, and the Tsuri International Christian School Library.
